The Little Brown Dogs Grooming
The Little Brown Dogs Story

Animals have always been my life and true love.  Nothing makes me feel as
complete and whole as being with these radiant beings of light.   I grew up with
dogs, cats and even some pet rats!  My first job was working for a dog breeder
and groomer and I knew from a very early time that the path to happiness and
security in my life would be walked with these wonderful creatures by my side.

The first Little Brown Dog who entered my life was Bella, a rescue dog from the
Conway Area Humane Society.

My partner and now husband, Jason and I had decided that part of the big step
in starting a life together was to bring someone in to share it with us.
After Bella passed away, we
thought a fitting tribute to her
memory would be to rescue
another dog who needed a good
home.

We found Miss B.B.  through the
Louisiana Humane Society
through Monique Kramer's dog
rescue, the Long Journey Home to
a New Beginning. Miss B.B. arrived
Bella, then called Sweetie, was in the very last row of kennels at the Conway Humane
Society.  She had arrived just the day before from Pennsylvania where she had been
fortunate enough to receive the life saving surgery she needed.  Her journey had
begun in Kentucky, where she had been dumped outside a high kill animal shelter
with a smashed leg and basketball sized hernia between her rear legs.

Her sweet disposition and giant soulful brown eyes are probably what saved her
from being euthanized right away.  We came in looking for someone special, and our
friend Roz Manwaring said she had just the special dog for us - she led us right to
Bella.

Since that day, and until May of 2009, Bella never left our side.  Everyday brought her
new adventures.  Having only three working legs never stopped her from having
loads of fun.  She loved summer trips to river, going up the Wildcat Gondola for
picnics, exploring the oceans, visiting her auntie Krista in Nashua.  She was the
flower dog at our wedding.
The second Little Brown Dog arrived a year later.  Jason
and I had been toying with the idea of getting Bella a
companion to spend time with and had been looking into
another rescue dog.  Star arrived by surprise in August of
2005, when I made another trip to the CAHS.  Again, Roz
was there and said, "Anna, I have the dog for you".

Star had been at the Humane Society for 6 months and
had also come from Kentucky where she had narrowly
Star hid under our coffee table for over a week, refused to eat anything but
scrambled eggs and later, proceeded to eat about $500 worth of clothing, bedding
and shoes... but we fell in love with her!  She became a permanent member of the
family just 4 months later.  Even though she has never lost her love of chewing on
her dad's socks and on occasion, a comforter, she is now social, playful and
loving with her close friends and family.   Though we are still working with
socializing her with new people, especially men, she has come so far from her
previous self we want to cheer!

Bella and Star are my inspirations for opening Little Brown Dogs.  They helped
guide me to the realization that there can be no greater or truer purpose in my life
than being with and helping animals.

coming to her new home.
In May, 2009, Bella succumed to fast growing Lymphoma cancer.  It spread quickly
and riddled her poor body with tumors.   We tried two surgeries to remove the
tumors, but they had already spread.  We think of Bella everyday and know that she is
waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

missed being euthanized because her abject fear of people made her "not adoptable".  At only a
year and half, it was appalling to imagine what kind of abuse had led her absolute terror of
humans.  Though she cowered from me at the back of her kennel, she was very interested in Bella
and took an instant liking to her.  I brought Star home as a foster dog.  Our goal would be to
rehabilitate her so that she could regain her sense of self and be able to live without fear.   We had
no idea how much work we had cut out for ourselves!

in early July.  She is sweet, loves her doggy sister's, loves sleeping on the bed and best of all, she loves our toddler, Lyssa.
They are best buddies and I often find B.B. and Lyssa cuddled up together on the couch or bouncing on the bed.  We look
forward to having everyone meet her soon.
Suki

Suki is listed lastly, as she is little, but not brown.
This does not make her any less important in our
pack however.  Suki arrived in February of 2007, and
quickly moved to the top of the dog pack.   I always
wanted a lap dog and love the tenacious and spunky
personality of the Silky Terrier....  they are like a full
size dog in a little dog body.

Suki is both a princess and a protector.  She is brave
and fearless... except when its time for brushing and
combing!   She is also very, very pretty!
BUT I DON'T WANT to share my
Boppy Pilow with the dog!
